Inquirer photographer August Dela Cruz (inset) nearly scored a Grand Slam in the PBA-Handford 1999 All Filipino Cup photo contest recently after bagging the first and third prizes. His entry "Bicol Express" (left, published Feb. 24) won the top prize while a dunking Asi Taulava photo titled "The Rock" took third prize. Dela Cruz won P21,000 and plaques for the awards. In another photo contest, Inquirer chief photographer Ernie Sarmiento ran away with the top prize in the McDonald's Photo PBA Contest with his entry, "Dunkin' Danny" showing San Miguel Beer's Danny Ildefonso stuffing in a slam dunk.

 

 

 

Aside from these PBA awards, August Dela Cruz also brought home a sixth place medal from the National Photo Contest organized by the FPPF in 1998. And last month, President Joseph Estrada personally handed him P10,000 in cash for being an honorable mention awardee of the Erap Estrada: 30 Taong Serbisyo Sa Masa photo contest.
